Getting it straight
Maddisen Garrett, 9, a Brownie with Happy Hollow Elementary School Girl Scouts and Brownie Troop 5101, center, helps other girls with "Cookie School," one of several stations in a workshop for scouts, organized by the Fayetteville Service Unit of the Girl Scouts Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas, to learn about selling cookies as area troops prepare for the annual cookie sale.
After shooting this photo, I worked with one of the group's representatives to get all of my information correct. For quite some time, I've seen 'Diamonds' on the uniforms of Girl Scouts and Brownies, but have been unsure of what it meant. I assumed it was a new sort of scout, perhaps an intermediate step between the younger Brownies and the older Girls Scouts. That's not it at all, apparently. The Diamonds is the name of the regional organization of Girl Scouts. Glad I asked.
