Penelope Olive, 12, of Fayetteville laughs as she skates beneath a limbo stick while enjoying a day of roller-skating at the Starlight Skatium in Fayetteville. The business adjusted its operating hours to allow for school-aged children to skate during over the holiday break which, for most school districts in the area, ended today.
It wasn't until I stopped her to ask her name that I realized that I knew the girl with the blue-green hair who was whipping round the skating rink and having a blast. I tried to avoid telling her that I remember when she was a little baby, but I simply couldn't. Why do we do that? I think we're amazed to see someone grow up right before our eyes. Time flies when you're older than 12 to a degree that astonishes me.
