Whoops!

A sign directing traffic along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Fayetteville near Interstate 540 is misspelled, lacking the second 'I' in Prairie.

I noticed this right off, and I'm proud to say that. It's probably because of how many times I have to type the word and make the same typo. Work at the intersection is just now completed, so this sign has not been up long. I wonder if they will replace it.

I love signs and all the misspellings and malaprops they provide. My favorite was when I received a call from a friend who said to get to the Wendy's restaurant in Springdale as quickly as I could to shoot the sign out front. I drove up there and got there just as they were putting the sign back together. It had read "Now hiring closers," but the 'C' had fallen off in the wind. Just missed that one.

That's just funny. But sad too. I mean how many people looked at that sign from the time it was made until the time it was put in place?

I once saw a sign outside an Arby's early in my career advertising the hiring of assistant managers. The hourly rate was easily $5 more an hour than I was making at the time. I had hoped it was a typo, but it wasn't. :-(

It really is funny and shocking that no one caught it. As a person who has made some really terrible and avoidable errors in my time here at the paper, I can't laugh too hard, though.

I try not to look at the Federal posters near our time clock that list the minimum wage. It's so dangerously close to what I make.
